Color combinations to try for Spring š
Matching colors can be difficult but when you do it right, there's nothing cooler
One thing I still find very difficult when dressing up is combining the right colors. Thatās why I usually dress with neutrals or total looks that make me feel like I canāt do wrong. But thereās a goal I decided to set myself for this Spring Summer and itās to learn to use colors wisely.
As I said in this video, black isnāt the easiest color to combine: this might sound shocking but if you want to know why, just watch the video where I explain it very clearly. With that said, you canāt just buy something in a bold, trendy color and think āwell, Iāll just match it with my black pantsā. Or better, you can do that but I can assure you that the result wouldnāt be cool.
To explain this concept better, I studied the color wheel by Amy Smilovic: long story short, to create the coolest outfits you should match a color from one ring with a tone of the ring nearby. For example red is in the ring 4: you can match it with brown, that you can find in ring 3. I think this is just a general guide line because for example I find it very cool to match red with baby pink (and weāll se some examples laterā¦), but they are on the same ring.
One thing to keep in mind when matching different colors is proportions: you canāt do 50/50, but you should choose a main color and add the other shades in smaller quantities. Hereās a clear example:
In preparation of this newsletter I collected some pictures from the past runways (mainly from SS 2024) of looks that caught my attention for the unusual mix of colors. And of course Iāll suggest items to add to your wardrobe. Letās go!
BURGUNDY + PINK
Thereās no doubt that burgundy was the main character of the past collections and as much as I like the full burgundy look I feel that to make it more special, you should match it with other colors. For example pink, from the bolder shades to pastel and peachy tones.
A TOUCH OF RED
I am a big fan of the ā touch of redā: itās the easiest way to make a neutral full look interesting. So if you are dressing in grey, dark grey, beige or butter, consider adding something red (shoes, a pullover, tights, or just a little detail).
ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK
I really like wearing orange in Summer, itās such a fun color to match and the possibilities are endless. The best way to use it this Spring/Summer? In contrast with saturated tones, like prune-purple or in little quantities with pastels (like baby pink or mint).
CAN BABY BLUE BE CONSIDERED A NEUTRAL?
I think the answer is yes: you can match it with āgreigeā and beige, but you can also add small touches of bolder shades (like fuchsia and orange) and it looks so modern and cool. If you have a Wedding coming, I suggest to opt for a baby blue dress and orange accessories.
Hope this little guide is helpful for those of you who wish to add some color in your outfits: as always, my DMs are open if you want some advice!
See u soon :)
